      <title>The 10th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;Safety 2010 is a major world conference bringing together stakeholders in the prevention of unintentional injuries and violence from around the world to debate, discuss and exchange information and experiences.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The key theme of the conference is Safe and Equitable Communities. This theme has been chosen to reflect the disproportionate burden from almost all types of injuries that falls on poorer communities. Such differences are apparent both within countries, between countries and even between global regions.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The Conference will take place on the 21st-24th September 2010, Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London, UK&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>7th International Conference on Workplace Bullying &amp; Harassment "Transforming Research: Evidence and Practice"</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;A great deal of uncertainty and ambivalence exists in many contemporary organisations and indeed in society more generally.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Partly this uncertainty may be attributed to the current economic climate; globalisation and its consequences; rapid technological change; to acts, or threats of acts of terrorism; shifting patterns of work and work relationships; and economic mismanagement and unethical behaviours in some corporations.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;We have seen an increase in reported stories of bullying, harassment, pressured workplaces, violence at work and deviant behaviours in the workplace currently and in the last decade or so. We have also seen increased employee anxiety; a change to concepts such as loyalty, commitment and service; and a growing mistrust of management and colleagues and their motives. Behaviours associated with bullying have been reported at all levels in organisations; from managers to staff, staff to managers; staff to staff, and customers or suppliers to staff.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;In many cases, government bodies have made serious attempts to address the problem by supporting research activity. More work, however, remains to be done and this conference presents an opportunity to share what has been done so far and to discuss where we might need to go in the future.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;One of the aims for this conference is to bring interested parties in organisations and government; researchers; policy makers; intervention specialists such as mediators, trainers, practitioners, therapists and counsellors together in a unified and synergistic conference format where ideas may be shared and exchanged in the spirit of collegiality and co-operation. In this way, we will enhance knowledge exchange and the dissemination of knowledge relating to workplace bullying and harassment.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The conference will enable researchers and practitioners to discuss and debate appropriate research and practicalities into matters affecting them at work to create new understanding; and to use that understanding to put in place positive strategies and interventions to create more meaningful, productive, and positive workplaces.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The conference will take place between the &lt;strong&gt;02/06/2010 - 04/06/2010 in Cardiff, United Kingdom&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

&lt;p&gt;Please note that in order to finalise the &lt;strong&gt;ELWHP Training Course&lt;/strong&gt; and receive your &lt;strong&gt;CME&lt;/strong&gt; credits (&lt;strong&gt;Continuous Medical Education)&lt;/strong&gt; you will need to submit a paper and a PowerPoint presentation.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;The paper, which is called the &lt;strong&gt;ELWHP Course Assignment,&lt;/strong&gt; is a Workplace Health Promotion Project idea, to be written by you using a template which you have been provided with, and to be based on the course materials and presentations you have received and attended. Please note that this paper is composed of 2 parts, the paper itself which needs to be written in Romanian (however we encourage all those who can to do it in English), and the summary (no les than 500 words) which needs to be in English. This paper needs to be submitted between the 8th of June and 6th of July 2009, therefore the deadline is the 6th of July 2009. Further details on the paper are provided below.&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;The PowerPoint presentation, called the &lt;strong&gt;ELWHP Course Assignment Presentation&lt;/strong&gt;, is a motivational and operational presentation aimed at both convincing the Works Council (of the enterprise where you&amp;rsquo;ll place your project idea) about the usefulness of the WHP project, as well as presenting the project plan for the project that you propose.&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;h3&gt;Tutor Recommendations On Line&lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;We strongly believe that you will need ongoing support over the month when you will be writing this paper and therefore we have arranged support from all of the lecturers who presented at the training course. This support will be in the form of electronic&lt;strong&gt; forums and e-mail &lt;/strong&gt;support. Both these features are described below..&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;h4&gt;FORUMS&lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;You will be requested to go online to receive advice and recommendations for writing your paper as well as to encourage you to use the ELWHP e-learning platform. The E-Learning Section of the&amp;nbsp; ELWHP website provides 10 forum areas, corresponding to the 10 modules of the ELWHP Course which are accessible and visible only for those who log on.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Each module lecturer will be available for you based on a pre-established schedule. This schedule is documented both at then end of this webpage and within the &lt;strong&gt;Forum &lt;/strong&gt;itself.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;You are requested to visit at least 2 forums per week. Of course it is entirely up to you to choose the forum which fits the profile of your paper, and which can provide the answers you need so as to enable you to write your assignment. However, please note that all the themes have been established so as to require you to enter more than 1 forum area.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;h4&gt;WRITE TO YOUR LECTURER&lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;E-Mail support is provided by the &lt;strong&gt;Write to the Lecturer or a Module&lt;/strong&gt; option which if pressed will automatically open a window where you can write a message to the lecturer in charge of the Module. Each lecturer will answer your message in no more than 2 working days so as to support you in writing your assignment.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

&lt;p&gt;When choosing the theme for your assignment please also consider the company/organisation where you will develop the project idea. Ideally it should be a real company/organisation that you know very well and you have worked with or for (you will be asked to provide anonymised information about and a description of this company/organization). &lt;p&gt;Within the website there is a table with the themes where you must select your desired theme by clicking the corresponding button. You will automatically receive a message telling you that you have been allocated the respective theme. The current availability status of the themes will be displayed automatically within this table.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The theme allocation is based on the principle &lt;strong&gt;&amp;ldquo;first come, first served&amp;rdquo;,&lt;/strong&gt; so making your selection early gives you the best chance of being allocated your desired theme.     &lt;li&gt;Please use the Romanian language&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Please provide at the beginning of the paper a Summary of no less than 500 words in English (see also the template for the Course Assignment)&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Please use the Black Verdana font (10pt) and single line spacing&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Your assignment should be no shorter than 7 pages&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Please use the chapter structure provided in the Template for the Assignment&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;li&gt;Upload the ELWHP Course Assignment and the ELWHP Course Assignment Presentation&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Then you will receive an email stating that your paper and your presentation have been uploaded&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;

&lt;h3&gt;Feedback on your ELWHP Course Assignment&lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;You will receive a feedback on your paper within 2 weeks following the date of the submission with the latest date being the 24th of July. At the end of this period you&amp;rsquo;ll also receive the CME certificate bearing the number of CME credits.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Please note that the best three ELWHP Course Assignments will be invited in the final workshop in Sibiu on the 12th of November and, if the employers/owners of these companies are interested will receive support so as to develop an application for a WHP Project to be funded through Structural Funds. This possible development will very much depend on the availability of the trainee to become further involved in these activities.&lt;span style="font-size: 10pt;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&#xD;

&lt;p&gt;In 2004 Romania launched its &amp;ldquo;Romanian Policy and Strategy in the field of Occupational Health and Safety for the period 2004-2007&amp;rdquo; a strategy paper issued in accordance with the &amp;ldquo;Community strategy on health and safety for 2002&amp;minus;2006&amp;rdquo;. The third objective of the national strategy states that:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;Developing activities of prevention of work accidents and occupational diseases by forming a culture of prevention of occupational risks&amp;rdquo;.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Under this objective an entire chapter is dedicated to Workplace Health Promotion which is heavily based on the Luxembourg Declaration (of ENWHP):&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo; &amp;hellip;. the combined effort of employees, employers and of the whole society so that it improves the health of people associated with professional determinants &amp;hellip;. &amp;rdquo;.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;This quote goes to the heart of the idea the promoters of this project had, i.e. to provide occupational health practitioners and public health experts with the knowledge, and instruments necessary to implement workplace health promotion initiatives.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The ELWHP Project aims to support member States' policies on lifelong learning and the build-up of knowledge, skills and competences which are vital for the future European economies as stated in the Community Policy on Lifelong Learning. The project addresses some of the priorities stated in the Lisbon Strategy (2000) which sets up a new strategic goal for the European Union, i.e. to strengthen employment, economic reform and social cohesion as part of a knowledge &amp;ndash; based economy.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The Lisbon Strategy, also known as the Lisbon Agenda or Lisbon Process, is an action and development plan for the European Union and its aim is to make the EU:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;quot;the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion, and respect for the environment by 2010&amp;quot;. &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p style="text-align: left;"&gt;In its resolution on the mid-term review of the Lisbon strategy in March 2005, the European Parliament expressed its belief that&lt;em&gt; &amp;quot;sustainable growth and employment are Europe's most pressing goals and underpin social and environmental progress&amp;quot; &lt;/em&gt;and &lt;em&gt;&amp;quot;that well-designed social and environmental policies are themselves key elements in strengthening Europe's economic performance&amp;quot;.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The project addresses also the Copenhagen Declaration of 2002 as it aims to develop a European common quality assurance framework for Vocational Education and Training as well as to strengthen policies, systems and practices for lifelong guidance.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;h3&gt;Project Aim&lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The project aims to deliver an Integrated Training Course (face to face training &amp;amp; e-learning) for Occupational Health &amp;amp; Public Health experts. It also aims to build a consensus among the occupational health and safety specialists&amp;rsquo; community regarding the need to have workplace health promotion within the curricula of both specialties involved (Occupational Health &amp;amp; Public Health).&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Accordingly the project aims:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;To organize an updated &amp;amp; specifically crafted Workplace Health Promotion Training Course for Occupational Health &amp;amp; Public Health experts;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;To support the process of developing Workplace Health Promotion knowledge among the health professionals and other experts taking part in this training course;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;To disseminate the content of the Training Course at European level for possible duplication according to various needs (OSH professionals as well as other stakeholders).&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;This website is a part of the e&amp;minus;learning component of the course (ELWHP). It is intended for health, OSH, and adult educational specialists. It is designed in collaboration with European partner, in order to teach workplace health promotion theory and practice.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

&lt;p&gt;There is also a larger group of beneficiaries which is represented by the vast community of:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Companies;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Companies&amp;rsquo; representatives; and&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Safety representatives.&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;They have their own needs, and these are not necessary only related to compulsory legislation (for example to comply with the legislation on Occupational Safety &amp;amp; Health) but also to other domains such as individual hygiene, workplace communication, crisis management, personnel development, etc. More and more companies are willing to invest in the health and well being of their employees, which is increasingly regarded as a resource. It is a noticeable development that these companies are more willing to do so based on the principles of workplace health promotion, and this means always more than the statutory requirements of Romanian legislation. It involves being in line with:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Principles of good practice (for example, Comprehensive Workplace Health Promotion projects);&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;Quality criteria of the European Network of Workplace Health promotion (such as the existence of a workplace health promotion and corporate policy, the cooperation between the Human resources and Work Organization departments, the acknowledgment of the social responsibility of any enterprise, the evaluation of the results of any workplace health promotion project etc).&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Awareness raising and dissemination activities are foreseen in the project that will involve representatives of employers&amp;rsquo; associations, unions and governmental agencies (National Association of Small and Medium sized Enterprises and Cooperation &amp;ndash; ANIMMC).&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;h4&gt;Secondary group of users / beneficiaries:&lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;At European level there is a second group of users represented by all the members of the European Network of Workplace Health Promotion - ENWHP (27 members), of which 7 are involved directly in the project as Project Partners.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

ELWHP is a &amp;ldquo;healthy&amp;rdquo; project which aims to provide professionals involved in Health at Work, with a blended (face to face training &amp;amp; e-learning) Training Course on WHP. The project also focuses at building a consensus among the specialists&amp;rsquo; community regarding the need to have workplace health promotion within the training syllabus of both specialties involved in dealing with Health at Work (Occupational Health &amp;amp; Public Health).&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The partners of the ELWHP project endorse the content of the Luxembourg Declaration of the European Network of Workplace Health Promotion which is stating that:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p style="clear: both;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) is the combined efforts of employers, employees and society to improve the health and well-being of people at work. This can be achieved through a combination of: &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;ul&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Improving the work organization and the working environment &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Promoting active participation &lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Encouraging personal development&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/ul&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The project is mainly targeted at occupational health practitioners and public health experts. It is also relevant for safety representatives, human resources managers and other workplace actors who may be involved in WHP activities.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The ELWHP website provides courses, bibliography, information, methods and training for OSH specialists (mainly occupational health practitioners and public health experts) and other professionals so as to enable them to develop workplace health promotion initiatives for companies they are working within.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
